POTHOLES AND STREET CLEANING
In the City's Public Works Department, the Division of Streets is responsible for maintaining and cleaning the City's streets and alleys, repairing potholes, removal of snow during the winter and removal of leaves during the fall. SIDEWALKS, CURBS and GUTTERS In general, the owner of the property is resopnsible for the maintenance of the sidewalks and curbs that face any public road. See City Ordinance § 257-17 Duties of Owners. "The owners of real estate bordering upon any public street shall construct, maintain and repair the sidewalks, curbs and gutters abutting their property." In the situation where roots of trees planted by the City have damaged sidewalks, curbs or gutters, the City may assume the cost of replacing that portion of sidewalk, curb or gutter damaged by the roots, but only as site and financial conditions may warrant.
