  PURCHASING A TAX LIEN as the First Step to Possibly Owning the Property

WHAT IS A TAX LIEN?

A Tax Lien is applied against a property if the owner of the property has not paid their taxes on the property.

Each year the City must conduct sales of Tax Liens that have been applied against properties. When you purchase a Tax Lien and the lien is not paid after two years, you can begin proceedings in Superior Court to foreclose on the property. If foreclosure is granted, then the name on the deed is changed to that of the lien holder (you) and you can then take possession of the property.

NOTE: This is not a simple process!
